The Steel Industry Benefits and Impact on Society

Steel production is essential in the development of society; from the construction of buildings, houses, structures, to the creation of objects and products that improve our quality of life.

Since ancient times, when the production of steel began, it has become an important part of our lives. Initially it was used to make swords, shields, armors and other tools for war or work instruments.

Today steel is used in many products and services that we use daily. It is key element of various industries such as construction, structural, metalworking, automotive, transportation, heavy industry, energy, food, tools, machinery, among others.

Steel is a critical material because no other one meets all its characteristics, such as strength, durability and versatility.

Construction Industry
Today the construction industry is the most important steel industry, representing more than half of the production worldwide. It represents modern architecture considering durability, flexibility and recycling.

Structural Industry
More than half of the steel produced in the world is used for the construction of buildings and structures. It is well known that, in a few years, the population level will increase and with this there will be a faster urbanization. Therefore, there will be higher need for buildings and structures.

Metalworking
Industry For this industry, various types of value-added steels are offered for the manufacture of machinery parts, equipment and tools for metallurgical processes.

Automotive Industry
Advanced high-strength steels are used for almost all new vehicles. New steel grades allow car manufacturers to reduce vehicle weight by 25-39% compared to conventional steel.

Transportation Industry
In recent years, due to increasing mobility and population growth, the transport load has doubled. In this industry, steel is used to meet transport needs, essential for road infrastructure, bridges, ports, stations, and airports.

Heavy Machinery Industry
For this industry, steel is used for the construction of large and heavy machinery that mainly results in instruments for extraction such is the case of mines in which the minerals used in the steel industry, oil and the manufacture of machinery and tools are extracted.

Some goods produced by heavy industry include production, railways, shipbuilding, as well as forklifts, backhoe loaders, automotive parts, ships, maritime platforms, satellites, airplanes, spacecraft, among many others.

Energy Industry
Steel is indispensable in the recovery, production, distribution and storage of energy.

Food Industry
Steel is necessary in the collection, storage, cultivation, storage and delivery of food. Nearly 200 billion cans of food are produced each year.

Tools and Machinery Industry
To mention a few: plastic parts of the automobile, glasses and the casing of computers are manufactured in steel molds.

Our Sales Manager, @Aarón Dueñas, tells us that…
Many advances have been made in the last 200 years in the steel industry. One of the main ones is the Bessemer converter, with which the process of converting pig iron into steel was accelerated. This sparked a breakthrough for the mass and large-volume production required by industry.

On the one hand, Steel reaches large infrastructures, skyscrapers and railways. A better quality of life has also been generated for everyone in the world, allowing each time to shorten distances on roads, connecting through bridges.

On the other hand, in the automotive industry, with the development of special steels, lighter and safer cars are being created.

Furthermore, without a doubt, this dynamic industry allows better home comforts with slimmer appliances
