What is the dunnage?

At Serviacero ORBIS, we manufacture racks, many of which include dunnage.

Dunnage is what helps our customers protect the parts that will be placed/transported in the supply chain on the racks we manufacture. It can be made of textiles, plastics, or even foam with varying levels of hardness to suit any need. Dunnage is custom-designed to fit the product requirements and our customers' needs. One of its most notable characteristics is that, like the racks, it is classified as returnable material due to the durability of its components.

The dunnage we use at Serviacero ORBIS is equipped with ORBIShield technology. We have various types, but there are three groups that are commonly used in the fabrication of our racks:

Textile Dunnage: With this type of dunnage, companies can efficiently ship and protect delicate parts in the supply chain, from moldings to Class A parts (parts more prone to damage due to their properties). The textile material is industrial-strength, allowing it to withstand rough usage without losing its properties. The care of transported parts improves because this type of material molds to the shape of the part, unlike rigid materials.

Adding sets of bags to a collapsible rack does not mean losing the benefits of a collapsible rack, such as space and cost savings. This is because, thanks to the design of the bags, the fabric fits precisely and can be folded and modified along with the rack mechanisms, making it easier to arrange racks for transportation. The main materials used in textile dunnage are PVC, Tyvek, laminates of various kinds, foams, poly-silk, among others.

Rigid Plastic Dunnage: Solid or corrugated plastic sheets are frequently used in custom divider sets. The laminated material provides rigidity and stability to stacked packages and can be laminated, edge-sealed, or stitched for increased protection and ergonomics of the parts. Different types include Corrugated Plastic (PCORR), Tri-laminated, Solid HDPE, various laminated options, coating options, edge stitching options, and edge sealing options.

Foam Dunnage: This type of dunnage is used to cushion and secure parts from any movement that may occur during transportation, especially for critical parts with specific handling requirements. This product is also customized to meet our customers' needs and the requirements of their parts. There are various types of foam dunnage with different densities, such as lightweight and thin foam, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) foam, polyethylene foam (2#, 4#, and 6#), Proluxe foam, and coating foam.

The use of dunnage offers several advantages, including:

  • Customized and simplified packaging using complex packaging that reduces damages, total cost, and freight usage.
  • Impartial solutions with a comprehensive product portfolio, including dunnage in steel racks.
