What is INOX 420?
Stainless steel 420 Mod. (equivalent to AISI 420 Mod., DIN 1.2083, JIS: SUS420J2) martensitic steel, is an improved solution of AISI 420 stainless steel, used specifically for the plastic molding industry, for the manufacture of cavities, inserts or components, it is a steel hardenable by transformation to martensite by thermal quenching and tempering process.
Properties of INOX 420
420 Mod. steel offers excellent corrosion resistance, wear and toughness properties, with working hardness ranges between 50-52 HRC.
Under annealed supply conditions, its physical properties such as: thermal conductivity, is 20 W/m °C, approximate thermal expansion coefficient of 11.2 x 10-6 / °C (0–200°C), at room temperature, It offers tensile strength of 1780 N/mm2 and a yield strength of 1460 N/mm2.
This steel is distinguished by its excellent polishability, good wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and machinability, making it ideal for cavities with an optical appearance (mirror), in addition, it offers good dimensional stability after thermal hardening, ensuring long-lasting performance in conditions demanding molding.
In the field of plastic molding, 420 Mod. steel is used in cavities, inserts and components for high-performance plastic injection molds, ideal for the processing of PVC products, products for the medical industry, food, ideal for general applications, where its resistance to wear and corrosion is necessary, ideal for supplying stainless steels, such as 303, 304, 316 (L) or 416, where its resistance to wear and deformation is required.
