What is P20+Ni?
P20 + Ni It is a steel meticulously developed in Europe, constituting an improved variant of the well-known AISI P20 by incorporating nickel (Ni) in its composition. This adjustment in the formula gives P20 + Ni exceptional characteristics that position it as a preferred choice in various applications.
In terms of chemical composition, DIN 1.2738, with a precise balance of elements such as carbon, chromium, molybdenum and nickel, supplied in quenched and tempered state, we supply it with hardness between 280 and 325 HB (~ 28 – 34 HRC), which Its resistance to deformation and performance stands out.
Properties of P20 + Ni
The physical properties of P20 + Ni offering, thermal conductivity of 29 W/m°C (208 BTU in/ft² h °F) from 0 to 200°C, coefficient of thermal expansion of 12.7 x10^-6/°C, thermal conductivity of 31 W/m°C (215 BTU in/ft² h °F) and coefficient of thermal expansion of 13.6 x 10^-6/°C in the range of 0 to 400°C, these physical characteristics contribute to its exceptional performance in various conditions.
P20+Ni offers less hardness variation in large dimensions, which is crucial in applications where uniformity is required, its mechanical properties are notable for their consistency throughout the volume of the steel, facilitating its application in a variety of tools, devices and components, in addition, its good machinability and polishing capacity expand its usefulness, making it ideal for applications such as photoengraving.
Applications of P20 + Ni
In terms of applications, the P20 + Ni finds its prominent place in plastic molding, especially in cavities or inserts for injection molds, where an exceptional surface finish is valued, in addition, its versatility extends to general applications, such as plates for fixing in cold stamping dies, mold holders, and die-casting mold components of non-ferrous metals, thanks to its uniformity of hardness and superior characteristics, this steel can be successfully used in various mechanical applications, such as arrows, shafts, crankshafts and fasteners, its ability to be surface-hardened through nitriding processes adds another dimension to its versatility and performance in specific applications.
