special alloys
We invite you to learn a little more about Special Alloys in this blog with experts from Serviacero Especiales.
We must know that steel is a special alloy, which we define as a homogeneous mixture or solid metallic solution composed of two or more chemical elements, where at least one of them is a metal. The purpose of alloys is to improve the properties and characteristics of the metals that make them up, but... Why add alloying elements (different chemical elements)? What we are looking for is to modify the characteristics and properties of natural metals.
To do this, we must consider that special ferrous alloys are those where iron (Fe) is the base element, and in non-ferrous alloys, iron (Fe) is not a base element; however, it could be present as an alloying element or even as a contaminant.
Special Alloys
Carbon steels
- i) Planes (Sheet and plate)
- ii) Non-flat (Wire rod, wire and rod)
- iii) Commercial profiles (Beams, PTR, angles, etc.)
- iv) Tubes (Seamless and Seamless)
Alloy steels (Solid bar, hollow bar, flat bar, wire, etc.)
Foundries and cast irons (Gray, or laminar, nodular, globular or ductile, etc.)
Non-ferrous alloys
Copper
- Bronze
- Brass
- Cupronickel
- Copper
- Beryllium copper
Aluminum
- Duralumins (6061 T6 or T651 and 7075 T6 or T651)
- AA 5083 (ALCA 5-MAX5)
Nickel
- Nickel 200 and Nickel 201
Zinc
- Zamak
Titanium:
Ti6Al4V
Now, what does steel represent? Steel is a special alloy based on iron (Fe) containing various chemical elements, where carbon (C) is a very important element; if it is present up to 2%, it is called steel; if its content is higher, it is called cast iron (cast iron).
