The AISI D2 steel corresponds to a tool grade steel for high chromium cold work (12% steels), with molybdenum and vanadium alloy, and is the most widely used in stamping and forming operations; it is characterized by:

  • High resistance to wear.
  • High resistance to compression.
  • High hardenability.
  • Good dimensional stability during heat treatment.
  • Good resistance to tempering.
  • Low toughness compared to other steels, which makes it sensitive to chipping or fracture.
