It is the most commonly used steel for the manufacture of tooling in hot work operations and plastic molding; corresponds to a chromium-molybdenum-vanadium steel, and is characterized by:
- Good hot resistance and thermal fatigue.
- High toughness and ductility.
- Good resistance to tempering.
- Good hardenability.
- It can be cooled with water.
- Good resistance to abrasive wear, both in high and low temperature operations.
- Good dimensional stability during heat treatment.
