416

Martensitic type stainless steel (hardening by tempering) and corresponds to a variation of AISI 410 stainless steel, to which sulfur (S) is added to provide greater machinability; 416 steel is considered "Free Machining Stainless Steel".

  • It is capable of reaching hardness after hardening of 42 HRC or slightly higher.
  • It can be tempered in a wide range of temperatures to confer different levels of mechanical resistance and toughness.
  • High hardenability steel, and oil quenching is recommended.
  • Good corrosion resistance.
  • Magnetic in all conditions, and resists oxidation up to 760 ° C.

The content of sulfur (S) decreases the hot forjabilidad; when forging is required, the recommended range is 1150 - 1260 ° C; do not forge below 870 ° C.
